After the title block, organize the progress report by goal. Each goal is a primary section of the report. In an outline format, visualize goals as capital letters, i.e. A, B, C, etc.

[GOAL number/statement]

Under each goal, create a subsection for each PI that tracks progress against that goal. Identify and report the progress toward achieving each GOAL PI. (Do not list and report on PIs here that track progress against specific objectives; those will follow.) In an outline format, GOAL PIs can be seen as numerals under the capital letters, i.e. 1, 2, 3.

Repeat this for each GOAL PI under this goal.

After you’ve listed and reported the progress on each GOAL PI, create a new subsection under that GOAL for each OBJECTIVE. In an outline format, OBJECTIVES are also numerals under the capital letter goals; they are at the same level as GOAL PIs. The number sequence is simply continued.

OBJECTIVE number/statement

Under each objective, identify and report the progress on achieving each OBJECTIVE PI. In an outline format, OBJECTIVE PIs would be lower case letters under each number, i.e. a, b, c, etc.)

The progress report may resemble something like this:

4. Second OBJECTIVE Number/Statement
a. First OBJECTIVE PI/Quantified Progress
b. Next OBJECTIVE PI/Quantified Progress

5. Third OBJECTIVE Number/Statement
a. First OBJECTIVE PI/Quantified Progress
b. Next OBJECTIVE PI/Quantified Progress

The second GOAL statement would then begin the next section, i.e. B, and each subsequent GOAL would begin a new section.

Each GOAL PI and OBJECTIVE would begin a new subsection under its associated GOAL, and OBJECTIVE PIs would begin minor subsections under their associated OBJECTIVES.
